Member Joe Balabuszko at The Chicago BrushMasters Charity Auction

Member Joe Balabuszko has an upcoming event:

The Chicago BrushMasters Charity Auction held in Rosemont, Illinois March 8-10 2024 (DES Convention Center).

Chicago has produced some of our nation’s most renowned and respected sign painters, pinstripers and designers for over 100 years (‘Chicago Style’). Roughly 40 artisans gather at this annual automotive show to produce hand painted works for motorsports enthusiasts.

The works are then auctioned off to benefit Ronald McDonald House with support from sponsors such as 1-Shot Paint, Wehrung & Billmeier Gold Leaf and Dick Blick, it’s an amazing collaboration that has raised over 1 million dollars to date.

Stop by if you’re in town! Or visit https://chicagobrushmasters.com for more info.

Studio Tour: All that GLITTER(s)!

New Member Joe Balabuszko recently took us behind the scenes at his St. Louis Park studio. Joe (born in Scotland, then> England> Chicago> Mpls) is hands-on involved in several professional organizations: Brushmasters, Society of Gilders and now our own CoC.

After a successful commercial career in Chicago specializing in second-surface/glass gilding for signage, Joe also uses gold in experimental ways: from accents on leather-wrapped walking sticks, highly textured found object collages - to personal fine art pieces and even ATC's!. He also uses (and currently promotes for the company) classic 1-Shot paints on surfaces of ALL types as well.

*UPDATE*: Joe will be teaching at The Society of Gilders 2024 Conference in Charleston, South Carolina / August 5-9. Details here: https://societyofgilders.org

He will also be a 2024 Jo White Scholarship Instructor, bringing his lifetime of experience as a Journeyman to an even wider audience in his 'adopted' Minneapolis.

His creative approach can be described as one of "fearless curiosity & craftsmanship". The mix is inspiring, as was the genuine dose of pure Balabuszko-ish camaraderie and hospitality Joe and wife Julie extended to us during the visit. The enthusiasm and gift for sharing was /is truly energizing - and much appreciated! PJP
